Why You Should Learn Foreign Languages In India

Language is the most common feature found in all cultures around the globe. In a country as diverse as India, we are exposed to several languages by nature. No matter where you come from, you are highly probable to be bilingual or multilingual.

What does it mean to learn a foreign language?

When you meet someone for the first time, it takes effort and intentionality to know them. You set aside time to go on dates, ask them questions, learn about their background, and understand how they think.

Learning a foreign language is relatively easy, it is a unique experience that will set you up for great things.

So here comes the question, "why should I learn a foreign language?" and that's exactly what we're going to talk about here.

Let's just get to it!

The Benefits of Learning A New Language

Often the idea of learning a new language has taken a negative approach. Whether at school or anywhere else, you may have had this pressure to learn a certain language for credentials or academic score. But did you know that there are many advantages to learning a foreign language?

Here's a couple of them:

The Psychological Advantage

Bilingual and multilingual people have brains that look and act differently from their monolingual counterparts. A multilingual brain receives more workout because it activates certain brain areas while working in the second language. This brain activity prevents the onset of diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia.

Skilled At Communication

Communication takes place using body language, non-verbal communication, written communication, etc. While learning a foreign language, you become aware of all the factors that enhance your communication skills.

You may have noticed that sometimes, because of a language barrier, communication becomes painful and awkward. You create a bridge between yourself and the native speaker when you can speak in a foreign language.

People tend to get excited and much more willing to help when the opposite person, especially a foreigner, can speak in their native tongue.

Culturally Aware

Someone was right to say that you have one life. But, by learning multiple languages, you can live a lot of lives in a lifetime. Simply put, this means that learning a foreign language introduces different cultures and helps you to see the world through a whole new lens.

Speaking makes it easier to relate to people of a different culture, to make a person more empathetic and understanding.

Socio-economic Status

In today's rapidly globalizing world, it has become imperative to prepare to face competition out there. There is no easier way to achieve that success than to have access to the world's recognized languages.

Your command over a foreign language, say, German, becomes a tool in your toolbox to work with MNCs looking for candidates who can communicate with their colleagues back in Germany.

Individual Growth

Learning a foreign language helps you to be disciplined. Thanks to the internet, we don't need to sit in classrooms or use paperbacks to learn things. And that can sometimes lead to lethargy in our daily lives.

But learning a language brings fun, excitement, and encourages us to become a better version of ourselves. It can introduce you to philosophies that will enhance your way of life.

Creates Memorable Experiences

Travelling around the world is a delightful experience. But beyond those fantastic pictures and delicious meals, will be the encounters you have with the locals of that country.

And what better way to enhance that experience than learning the language of that country. Through the language, you will be able to better grasp the culture, the food, the history, and discover some incredible life truths.

Establishing Connections

Language is like a key that unlocks doors to a myriad of opportunities. You will be fascinated by how differently a conversation will go when you speak with a native speaker in their own language.

Speaking in foreign languages helps establish relationships with people who could have political gain, economic gain, conduct business, or even fall in love.

Learning a foreign language is not just about studying new words or learning new sentences. It's about upgrading yourself to becoming a more qualified and socially and culturally aware person.

By learning a new language, you allow yourself to negotiate and comprehend underlying factors that play into a country's infrastructure or culture. This, in turn, opens up endless possibilities and boosts your prospective of a promising future in your field of work or interest.
